The Beetham Tower or Hilton Hotel as its officially known, lies in the heart of Manchester city centre.
Designed by Manchester-based firm, Ian Simpson Architects. The tower started construction in 2004 and was completed in early 2007 at a cost of £150 million. Standing at 171m tall (562 Feet). It is the tallest building in Manchester, and is the UK's highest living space, its also the tallest building outside of London.
The building includes a 5 star, 285 bedroom Hilton Hotel from storeys 5-23, a "Sky bar" and apartments from the 25th to the 50th floors.
From the 24th floor the building dramatically juts out 4m from the floors below with a cantilever. With views stretching as far as the Welsh Mountains, Liverpool and the Blackpool Tower. Beetham can be seen from 10 counties.
The Architect who designed the building. Ian Simpson bought the Penthouse duplex apartment with roof terrace for a reported £3 million pounds.
Its easy to see why the Penthouse could cost so much given the fact of how unique and unusually structurally impressive Beetham Tower is.
What probably makes Beetham so famous is its design. Visually, the building makes quite an impact and as well as looking modern. Its the unique features which make it stand out. Its cantilever design and mismatched striped glass which runs from the bottom to the top of the building is an impressive sight. The most prominant feature of the building though is actually the glass sail which is located on the roof.
Despite its rather unusual and unique features Beetham dominates the Manchester skyline but surprisingly blends in rather well with its urban surroundings.
As one of the tallest buildings in the country, Beetham is not only an impressive sight but its also a local landmark and one that deserved to be explored.
The tricky thing was how we was actually going to accomplish it? Fortunatley we didnt encounter any problems and no had no difficulty in finding our way to the roof, which was our ultimate goal.
The views from the roof are spectacular! We must of spent nealry half an hour just admiring the view and identifying local landmarks before we even unpacked our cameras!! An awesome explore of one of the countrys most iconic buildings.
