Chateau De Miranda

Chateau De Miranda was built in 1866 by the English architect Milner. Although Milner died before seeing its completion. The Château de Mirinda, as it was called then, was owned and used by the family of the Count of Liedekerke-Beaufort where it originally served as a summer house.

During World War II the Nazis occupied the Chateau whilst invading Europe but this was for a short time. It was in 1958 that the Chateau became known as Castle Noisy / Château de Noisy, after the Belgium railway company SNCB (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Belges) took over the residence as a refuge for their children.

In 1991 a fire broke out in one part of the building, since then the chateau has been abandoned and left to slowly decay in its heavily wooded overgrown surroundings.

The exterior seems almost intact including its 185 feet clock tower but the inside hasnt been as fortunate. Over the years the chateau has been looted and vandalized. Some sections have entire floors and ceilings missing and is quite dangerous in parts.

Many of the original interior features have either been stolen, smashed or simply decayed over the years. A great shame.

The chateau is very imposing, menacing and yet beautiful at the same time. Its a cross between a fairy tale castle and a haunted castle.

Since seeing reports of this place years ago it was one of them places we fell in love instantly.

Noisy is legendary in the Urban Exploring world and is one of the most iconic and instantly recognisable explores there is and with good reason too.

Well with a trip to Europe on the cards this year this was the one place that was top of the list regardless of anything else.

Exploring new sites is always exhilarating but when your exploring one of the most famous explores in Europe its another level and one I am proud to say we have done.

We arrived at Noisy in the early hours of the morning during a thunder storm and trekked through the pitch black forest which was lit by lightning every couple of minutes. Providing the most eeriest atmosphere you could imagaine, we finally got to the front doors around 3am and bedded down for the night to wait for first light to explore this icon.

Around 5:30am we woke and set off exploring until mid morning when we finally left.
