E.P. Bray & Co. ltd. Is part of Keiner & Co. ltd. And Manufactured inorganic pigments for plastics and associated applications. Colour ranges included Red, Orange, Green and Yellow pigments.
The site also goes under the name of the Coombes Lane Works and Keiner Dye Works. From what limited information we have been able to gather so far E.P. Bray & Co. ltd. have been there since 1979 maybe earlier and closed down sometime in or around 2006. Apart from that there isnt a lot more that can be found on the place or indeed the businesses that occupied the former mill.
The site covers just over 8 acres and includes a main warehouse and packaging section, boiler room and storage floors split over 3 levels. The main section of the mill also contains a labrotory which is still present, minus obvious equipment and chemicals.
Included in the grounds and part of the mill is a row of nine two storey cottages, seven of which are vacant and come as part of the site, the other two are occupied by tennants.
So far its unkown when the mill was originally constructed and its original purpose but its currently up for sale for £1,100,000.00
There are warning signs all over the exterior of the mill as the place is riddled with Asbestos and other chemicals.
Chemical suits and respirators are advised to be worn if entering the site for health and safety reasons as well as personal protection.
After hearing a rumour this place had closed we decided to have a quick look and see if it was worth exploring.
With the warning signs in mind, the appropriate safety equipment was brought along just to be on the safe side.
The site is very deceptive all though it covers 8 acres, the interior of the mill seems quite small in comparison to its exterior.
When Mendo, Dodge and myself explored the mill back in 2007 we were slightly disappointed by the lack of machinery but was amused by the vivid colors of the place. Three years later Jaff and myself returned to see if the mill was still explorable and to our delight it was.
Not a lot has changed since 2007 the paper work we originally found was still in the same place! The only addition to the mill now is an old BMW which sits quietly rusting away in the car park.
