Geest House

Geest House was the U.K. Headquarters of the Dutch shipping company Geest North Lines BV. Geest was one of the largest international shipping companys in the world with a fleet of its own vessels until it was taken over by its rival Icelandic company Samskip in 2005.
Samskip was founded in Iceland in 1990 and since then has expanded immensley, with the acquisition of Geest North Lines it now makes them one of the largest air, land and sea shipping companies in the world.
Information on Geest House however is rather harder to find than the history of the company.
Judging by its design and condition the building looks relativley new, if it was actually purposley built by Geest for their headquarters is another question though???
From the condition of the interior it looks like its only been abandoned for about 12 months as there is very little vandalism what so ever but its possible it could of been empty a lot longer?
Before driving through Ipswich on the way to another explore we had never heard of Geest House let alone known it was abandoned. It was sheer chance that we stumbled across it.
It turns out though it was an exceptional find as not only was this abandoned but it backed onto Oilite Bearings which is also just as abandoned.
For an explore it was nothing special just an old office block much like any other, but with it being wide open it would of been rude not to have a quick look.
Inside is relativley bare which did surprise us a bit, there were a few bits of paper work still scattered about and the odd bit of furniture but not a lot else really.
The good thing was the lack of structural damage to the place and lack of vandalism which given the location is quite something. But given it sits on the main road may account for why it hasnt been destroyed yet?.
The highlight for us though was realising that it led straight into Oilite Bearings which is a rather large and interesting industrial site with one of the coolest laboratorys we have seen in a long time.
As for the furture of Geest House??? I would probably hazard a guess it will be refurbished and either let out or possibly sold as its in relativley good condition.
