Gough & Co. Engineering. Manufacture conveyor systems. Elevating and delivery systems and complete engineering solutions for companies all over the world.

The company are recognised as market leaders in process handling solutions and have recently become the sole U.K. distributor to market leaders TAVIL. Europes leading manufacturer of automated packing lines and box forming systems.

The site we visited was there old factory and was vacated some time ago. The new factory and offices are now based at Newstead Industrial Estate to the south of Stoke-On-Trent.

Gough`s is very deceiving from the outside and looks rather dull. But once you enter the site its like the Tardis. 10 times bigger than what it looks.

The main factory floor is naturally quite empty with all the major machinery missing. There are still a few over head cranes still in situ and in quite good condition. There is also an abundance of old company magazines and brochures which are scattered across the various managers offices. The back section of the factory houses the spray room but all that remains here are some old fashioned pump trucks and trolleys.

The factory office how ever still has accident books and diaries still in situ as well as some christmas decorations still hung up.

In the main office there is plenty of paperwork and even some technical drawing equipment, probably used by the design teams, still in situ.

Apart from this the only other items we came across where some company photographs, company banners and signs and the odd smashed computer monitors.

The warehouse section seems to have been used at some point to store body kits for cars, possibly by the company next door?

From the outside you wouldnt even consider exploring this place. It facade is dull and unimaginative. The windows all boarded and the company sign torn down. But it goes to show that you can never judge a book by its cover.

Since our visit in July 2007 workmen have been seen on site. Normally this would indicate a place being sold or possibly renovated. But due the factorys location in Hanley its more than likely that it will be demolished as part of their huge regeneration programme.

Gough`s isnt the greatest explore but it does have some interesting features.
