This Tractor Graveyard is actually owned by Muir Hill which dates back to the early 1920s.
Muir-Hill Service Equipment Ltd. Was started by Mr Muir and Mr Hill. Developing the first Muir-Hill Tractor for Marcus Allen & Sons Ltd. At Old Trafford, Manchester.
The company produced Tractors. Loaders and Dumpers, mainly for the Agricultural industry but its vehicles where so reliable that they also produced equipment for the Ministry Of Defence.
In 1931 Mr Edward Boydell took over the company and changed the name to E. Boydell and Co Ltd.
In 1959 E. Boydell & Co. Was sold to Winget Ltd. Of Rochester, Kent. A few years later in 1966 David J B Brown had instigated the production of seven new loading shovels with lifting capacity ranging from 4000 lbs to 6000 lbs. During the latter part of this year the versatile 101 tractor, with its agricultural and industrial applications was introduced.
Two years later Winget Gloucester Ltd. Was sold to Babcock and Wilcox Ltd. Along with this came a name change from E. Boydell and Co Ltd. To Muir-Hill Ltd. The company remained under this name until 1971 when Further company re-organisation occurred.
Finally in 1991 Lloyd Loaders (MH) Ltd. Of Yorkshire acquired Muir-Hill from Aveling Barford. The name still exists as part of the family run business.
When Jaff and myself first stumbled across this site we did initially think it was derelict as the entire site is desolate. This however is not the case.
The yard is home to some magnificent and no doubt rare vehicles some of which no doubt date back towards the 1920s. If these vehicles are restorable is anyones guess but there are some fascinating tractors lying around the place.
From Dumpers to Tractors to Loaders and wrecks this place certainly has a varied and mix of machinery rotting away. Some of which look fantastic and certainly made for and interesting explore.
It was only when a little research was done later that we discovered the significance and heritage of this great British tractor manufacturer and realised what a gold mine we had discovered.
A unique little explore all of its own this one. And with such and heritage and history makes it all the more that little bit special. A cool place with plenty to offer and one that hasnt been explored before.
