Royal Army Ordnance Corp Marchington, was built around 1957 and dealt with the supply and maintenance of weaponry and munitons and various other military equipment until 1993 when the corp amalgamated with the Royal Logistics Corp.

It was also a Central Vehicle Depot during this time until the barracks closed in 1970, and the Territorial Army took over until finaly closing the site in the early 1980s.

Marchington also housed the Army`s fleet of Green Godesses which came under the jurisdiction of the Office Of The Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM).

Considering the barracks have been closed for going on twenty years plus they are in exceptional condition, they are pretty bare inside but theres no real damage or vandalism which is odd as there is a housing estate right next door.

The central barracks building has been recently demolished and all thats left is a big empty space where it once stood.

There is some very strange grafitti inside too and not the work of kids, but this adds considerably to the atmosphere of the place.

Marchington gives an eerie presence with its perimeter fencing and symetrical layout, reminds you in some ways of Chernobyl or some post apocolyptic scene from a film set.

It is a cool place though and very imposing, its well worth seeing as its gained some what of an iconic status amongst the urban exploring community.

There are rumours of the entire site being demolished to make way for yet more new housing but so far the planning application has not gone through.

Visited with Storm as we have been meaning to do this place for going on for a year, on arrival we expected there to be people in there as the barracks are right next to a housing estate, how ever the place was totaly deserted which added to the ambience of the place.

Access was a doddle as there are a few holes in the fences, so we headed straight into barracks building No.4, this is where we seen the thought provoking grafitti painted on the walls.

We spent around and hour and a half exploring the various buildings before heading off over to the Fauld crater a few miles away.
