Stockport Clock Tower.

Stockport Clock Tower was built in the 1960s when the precinct itself was being constructed, the architecture is typical of the era and surprisingly it has stood the test of time.

The Clock Tower has been the focal point of Stockport precinct for going on nearly 50 years, but this is the first time we believe since it was erected that restoration work has ever been carried out on it.

Since moving to Stockport I have always wondered what it would be like to see this piece of 60s architecture from the top but never thought it possible until now.

Seeing this for going on nearly twenty years and never getting close was some what of a disappointment but when the day came I seen the scaffolding up it was like a dream come true.

Its far from the tallest building in the North west but does have significant importance to the area and deserved to be conquered as the chance of it happening again in my lifetime are probably slim, so with that the plans where set.

A few weeks earlier The New Mendoza and myself attempted to climb the tower but having been exploring all day and it raining and being cold we wasn`t really feeling in the mood for it on top of this TnM is afraid of heights.

Determined to do it still, it was put on hold until a suitable night could be arranged.

So one night after another all day explore, myself Jaff Fox and Lawrence decided it was to be done as the last explore of the night, and I must say I enjoyed it and it was well worth it.

Access was easier than we thought and within minutes we where at the top of the scaffolding looking down over Stockport precinct, the strange thing is, its higher than you think and gives some spectacular views over Stockport, you can even see the Beetham Tower in Manchester from here.

The clock face itself was rather disappointing though, we where expecting a room full of clockworks sadly though the mechanism is actually behind the face of the clocks themsleves, not discouraged though we explored every inch of this iconic landmark including the laser on top of the tower, sadly this was turned off.

It was an awesome explore in my views with it being a local landmark and I enjoyed immensely and it will stay with me for a long time, after half an hour or so it was time to call it a night but not before dropping to ground level to take some exteriors shots and a few group shots, whilst security watched us completely unaware of what we had just done.
