Kingspan Group ltd.

The Kingspan Group was founded in 1972 as a small family business by Eugene and Brendan Murtagh (both currently members of the Board of Directors). The Group was initially involved in the manufacture of metal cladding and roll formed structural sections. Later, Kingspan began the manufacture of environmental on a small scale.

During the early 1980's, the Group expanded into the manufacture of insulated panels and insulation products and established numerous manufacturing plants in the U.K. and Ireland. The Group floated on the Irish Stock Exchange in 1989 and is still going strong today.

The site in Glossop is at the old Dover Mills where the company has been based for many years until finally relocating towards the late part of 2007.

We have known of this place for a while but never thought it would close, or at least any time soon, so when a phone call came one night from The New Mendoza saying its now derelict, the plans where set to explore this place.

After numerous weekends of attempting to explore here where abandoned due to more interesting sites, it wouldnt be till nearly two months later we eventually found time to do it.

So one cold and dark night after coming back from Sheffield way we decided to drop by and finally explore the place, we had high hopes of finding all sorts of machinery and production lines here, but to are amazement they had stripped the place virtually bare.

Not discouraged though we made the most of it and still managed to find some interesting things including power to certain sections and an almost intact staff canteen with food still in the fridge.

Seems they also forgot to take the radio as well as there lunch, the radio still works.

A bit of a disappointment in one way but also worth doing for the sake of being the first to explore here which is always a nice feeling.

Size wise its deceptive being at least three times bigger than what we initially expected, access was also comical in one section and ended with us climbing the inside of a lift shaft to access the first floor, which was lead by The New Mendoza who is scared of heights?.

Apart from the lack of any thing of significance it was and enjoyable hour or two of exploring and another new site which the North West has to offer.
