Hyde Police Station.

Hyde Police Station is situated on the back streets of Hyde town centre and comes under the borough of Tameside, Cheshire.

So far we have been unable to establish when the station actually opened but do know it closed some time in late 2007.

The station itself was a small community outpost and did not possess cells only dog kennels to the rear of the station.

A new station, which is huge in comparison has been built on the other side of Hyde now as its replacement.

As with most Police stations the exterior is rather dull to look at and very modern and by no means an architectural work of art, but having said that they are meant to serve a purpose even if appearing unpleasing to the eye.

We first looked at this place around Christmas time 2007 and it was sealed tight but as always it seems that vandals eventually found a way in, sadly theres not too much of interest inside how ever we did come across some paperwork that had been left behind as well as the odd bits off Police clothing and surprisingly the Scenes Of Crime Handbook along with some evidence tags.

The size of this place I think was its only fault, there wasnt a great deal to see but certain little features made up for that, just a shame that Stalybridge didnt have as much lying around.

The exterior had every window smashed as expected, seems like a common trend now, when Police stations are closed down the locals vandalize them, probably as a statement or to show there discontempt of the law.

Just a shame there where no cells in this one as they always provide some comedy moments when exploring places like these, the Dog Kennels where a nice feature though and one we have not come across before.

This is the second Police Station that we have explored and each one has been totaly different from what we expected.

But with the closures of virtually all the smaller stations in the surrounding areas it seems it wont be our last either, lets just hope theres more to see in the ones we explore next ;)

Since our visit in early February, it seems the station has fallen victim to redevelopment and has now been completely demolished, the odd thing is though it was actually up for sale?

Seems sometimes its easier just to completely start a fresh and level a place.
