Weston P.O.W. Camp

The History on Weston Prisoner Of War Camp is rather hard to find. And from what little information we have gathered, it seems that it had two roles since its conception.

At some point it was believed to be a German P.O.W. Camp during WWII and then after the war turned into a Polish Refugee Camp for pressumably immigrants.

With no absoloute proof and only relying on the locals in the area for information, we can only assume it served as both a WWII P.O.W. Camp and a Polish Refugee Camp.

Apart from the lack of concrete proof and history to Weston or even when it was erected. It was still an enjoyable explore.

Steamy and The New Mendoza visit a few months previously inspired mine and Storms visit to the camp.

The camp is spread out over an average size area and is rather tightly packed. Unfortunatley not a lot remains inside the huts apart from the odd light switches, sockets and wiring.

The owner who`s land the camp sits on did inform us that the site was being demolished at some point towards late 2007.

The site itself is very much typical WWII style ie. corrugated huts, but is quite photogenic in parts and the lighting in some parts adds to the effect.

It doesnt look like the site has changed at all really since its conception and is in quite good condition for its age.

The current land owners we dont think have always lived there due to there lack of accurate information. How ever they where more than helpful and told us as much as they could about the place as wel as give us free rain of the camp.

Storm and myself spent around an hour wandering in and around the various huts before heading over to the ROC post at Faddiley.

This site is on private property and despite the current owners being very helpful and friendly it is advized that obtaining there permission first would be wise.

All in all this is a cool little explore and does not fail to impress. Especially if your into P.O.W. Camps / refugee camps and WWII buildings.

Update: As of mid 2009 the camp is still standing and no demolition has started.
